In Japan, a ten track Rain mini album or EP was later released to celebrate the single and the upcoming Girlie Show concerts. As usual, Australia copied the release, but eliminated the obi-strip from their pressing. On July 17Rain was released as a single in North America.
Erotica, romance Erotica, romance My name is Dita I'll be your mistress tonight I'd like to put you in a trance If I take you from behind Push myself into your mind When you least expect it Will you try and reject it If I'm in charge And I treat you like a child Will you let yourself go wild Let my mouth go where it wants to Give it up, do as I say Give it up and let me have my way I'll give you love I'll hit you like a truck I'll give you love I'll teach you how to Though there's no mention of this in the credits, Madonna also used a traditional Christian-Arabic hymn as backing vocals. The female voice that you hear in the background is actually Arabic singer Fayrouz, who sang 'Alyawm Olliqa' in
At the very least, I knew a good flamenco guitar solo when I heard one. The emotional states that lie beneath certain aspects of sexuality are universal—even if handcuffs and harnesses are not. Deeply flawed, hugely under-appreciated, and pounded into submission by the hype and controversy surrounding SexErotica is the album Kurt Loder likened to an iceberg.
And yes, Madonna is everything in that sense, but from a pop perspective Madonna also feels like everything because in a career spanning four decades she has attacked, absorbed, and conquered pop music from every possible angle. In reality, her layered approach to pop domination has frequently seemed to consist of multiple Madonnas existing at the same time. Here are six of her best, key to understanding her work.
Apart from her three greatest hits, Madonna has not shown much interest in repackaging and expanding her back catalogue. Her first three records were remastered and reissued back inbut it was a rather haphazard affair, with a simple 1CD re-release with two or three remixes bolted on to the albums proper. Some bizarre decisions were made, such as not even including Into The Groove as a bonus track on Like A Virgin when many European fans knew it as part of the album it became track six on the reissue for most of the world.
This cool interview with Tony Shinkin was posted on mtribe. I thought it would be cool to share with my fellow madonna orgers. Some great insight into the Erotica era, especially the writing and production process.
It's time to celebrate the twenty years of Eroticaone of Madonna's most original and controversial albums, with an exclusive chat with Tony Shimkinco-producer and co-author of some of the album's greatest songs. How did you start your career? Tony Shimkin : I began in high school by working as an intern at Soundworks studio in NYC which coincidentally is the same studio we mixed the Erotica album in as well as all the remixes of her previous records.
Erotica is the fifth studio album by American recording artist Madonnareleased on October 20, by Maverick and Sire Records. The album was released simultaneously with Madonna's first book publication Sexa coffee table book containing explicit photographs featuring the singer, and marked her first release under Maverick, her own multimedia entertainment company. Madonna built her empire on pristine pop that still resonates on the radio today, but a master of any form knows how to expertly break the rules, defy expectations, and just get weird or goofy, as well. Nestled in her discography of pure pop bops is a recurring trend: off-the-walls sonic experimentations, songs with lyrics that weave in influences from unusual sources like beat poetry and religious chants, and some purely for-the-club collaborations. After all, this is not a woman who got her start on The Mickey Mouse Clubbut rather by drumming in a rock band, hanging with Lower East Side art scene luminariesand once, while still working as a nightclub coat check girl, opening for the Smiths.
