That John Lydon is increasingly a bizarre and crotchety old man is not much beyond dispute. Inin New York City the Ramones gave punk rock its sound, a caffeinated pop bounce that would endure down the years with bands such as The Dickies and Green Day. But in London, that same year John Lydon — or Johnny Rotten, as he was then known — gave the genre its voice.
The year-old shared only a passing resemblance to his alter ego, Johnny Rotten Yet, despite this, fans of John Lyndon could be forgiven for failing to recognise the once-anarchic singer, today. That's because the chart-topper has undergone quite a transformation in recent years - as he proved when he touched-down in Los Angeles airport on Sunday morning.

Rotten said he's had to deal with vandals hitting his multi-million home and that his wife, Nora Foster, has been "struggling to cope" with the surge of "vagrants" in the area. Foster has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and is having trouble dealing with the problems that are arising because of the homeless camped outside their door.

They ignited the punk-rock revolution in Britain, and the reverberations carried to all corners of the rock and roll world. Expressing the cynical, restive mood of youthful Britons, the Sex Pistols restored a sense of danger to rock music.
