Joshua D. Safer said. As far as we in the mainstream biological-medical community understand it init is hard-wired, it is biological, it is not entirely hormonal, and we do not have identified genes, so we cannot specifically say it is genetic.
A well-known British cosmetic surgeon says that transgender women ie, natal males should be entitled to womb transplants when the technique becomes safe and feasible. Children have already been born after womb transplants from live and deceased donors. There are clearly anatomical boundaries when it comes to trans women but these are problems that I believe can be surmounted and the transplant into a trans-female is essentially identical to that of a cis-female.
Transgender people are people who identify, act, or feel different from the sex they were assigned at birth. The word "transgender" may describe many different people. People with different ideas about their genders may think of themselves as transgender.
One of my earliest memories, about five years old, was being yelled at by a teacher for going to the toilet with the girls. About the same age I realised I was different to these other boys. At the age of nine I refused to have my hair cut.
At SELF, we love stories of physical and personal transformation that depict people getting closer to living their happiest lives. There may be no better or more urgent example of this than the tales of challenge and fulfillment in the emergent transgender community. We wanted to share a few of these stories—and add some insights about the shifting attitudes and policies that have shaped them—in our new Transgender Now series.
NEW YORK Reuters - While President Donald Trump has thrust transgender people back into the conflict between conservative and liberal values in the United States, geneticists are quietly working on a major research effort to unlock the secrets of gender identity. Two decades of brain research have provided hints of a biological origin to being transgender, but no irrefutable conclusions. Now scientists in the consortium have embarked on what they call the largest-ever study of its kind, searching for a genetic component to explain why people assigned one gender at birth so persistently identify as the other, often from very early childhood.
Mariette Pathy Allen has been photographing the transgender community for over 30 years. Her first book "Transformations: Crossdressers and Those Who Love Them" was groundbreaking in its investigation of a misunderstood community. Her second book "The Gender Frontier" is a collection of photographs, interviews, and essays covering political activism, youth, and the range of people that identify as transgender in mainland USA.
Transgender people have a gender identity or gender expression that differs from their assigned sex. Being transgender is independent of sexual orientation : transgender people may identify as heterosexual, homosexual, bisexualasexualor may decline to label their sexual orientation. The term transgender is also distinguished from intersexa term that describes people born with physical sex characteristics "that do not fit typical binary notions of male or female bodies".
According to a draft memo leaked to The New York Timesthe US Department of Health and Human Services HHS proposes to establish a legal definition of whether someone is male or female based solely and immutably on the genitals they are born with. Genetic testing, it says, could be used to resolve any ambiguity about external appearance. The move would make it easier for institutions receiving federal funds, such as universities and health programmes, to discriminate against people on the basis of their gender identity.
The study of the causes of transsexuality investigates gender identity formation of transgender people, especially those who are transsexual. Transsexual people have a gender identity that does not match their assigned sexoften resulting in gender dysphoria. The most studied factors are biological. Certain brain structures in trans women have been found to be similar to cisgender women's as opposed to cis men's, and trans men's have been found to be similar to cis men's, even controlling for hormone usewhich can also cause trans people's brains to become closer to those of cis people of the same gender.
